                                August Anthony Alsina

September 3,1992 an angel was born

            Biography

“Started off in the streets. We would take collection from the fiends. People dying all around me. So I gave you my testimony.” Born and bred from the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana enter 22 year old August Alsina.

With all the love and hustle of the Cresent City running through his veins. August was eager to follow in the footsteps of music legends that paved his way. He recently left his record label Radio Killa and signed to Def Jam Recordings. It looked to be a great step in the right direction but music was never in his future.

August learned at an early age the drugs and money can either make you or break you. With both his father and step father battling crack cocaine addiction. August mother moved their family to Houston, Texas in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina for a fresh start. Houston had no happy ending. For young August he endured a home life plagued by drugs and violence. At the age of 14 he got the word from New Orleans that his father August Alsina Sr. lost his battle with the drugs and alcohol.

As a child no one his family was musically inclined he was inspired be sing by Lauryn Hill in Sister Act 2. Alsina first uploaded videos to YouTube in 2007 at the age of 14, starting with a cover of "Hypothetically" by Lyfe Jennings.

August dropped out of high school because he never had enough clothes so he started to make money by selling drugs and cocaine what his father and stepfather use to own. At some point August was “kicked out” When August father passed he was accepted back in it was just August, his mother, and his older brother.

August was more committed to music on August 31, 2010 when his brother Melvin LaBranch III was shot and killed. He was relocated to Alanta, Goreorgia in 2011. The First song August wrote about his brother was “Downtown.” His brother died at the age of 25. The video was taken Houston, Texas. He was visiting his brother grave along with his brother three daughters. Downtown was mainly about his feelings he went through when his brother died. August also wrote another song called “Don’t Forget about me” when I first listen to this song I broke into tears. He was on the phone with his cousin and his cousin broke the news down to him saying that his brother was shot and he’s dead and he thought he was joking so he cousin told him he was serious and he stared to cry. He prayed to God asking for forgiveness and how he wanted to have a new start. August wrote many inspirational songs. He wrote song to his mom called “mama” He was saying that he’s thankful for his mom because when there was nobody to help him she was always there and how if it wasn’t for her he would have been locked up, gunned down but he found his own way and he’s never going back to the way things used to be.

Just recently August had passed out on tour because he hadn’t eaten anything all day he was in a coma for 3 days. Doctors say he had a health scare. On social media there was a hashtag called #prayforaugust. On October 28, 2014 he released a song called “Grinding” He was talking about how hes gonna try his best to see his mother not wanting anything. He also said that when he was in the coma for the three days it showed him “when God is for me no wepon can hold me”

August refers to his fans as youngins. He has a major impact on my life. His background shows me anyone can change over time. We also have many things in common we both lost someone dear to us. When August sings he’s thinks of where he coming from he promised that he would never let fame get to him. He can inspire someones life in a blink of an eye and I’m so glad he inspired mine.
